Cheryl Cooper

A public speaker and communicator by training & passion, Cheryl earned her B.S. in Communication and Business at Ohio University (cum laude) and her M.A. in International Business and Communications.

She went on to spend two years living and working all over Africa as a organizational/infrastructure capacity building consultant for Non-profit and Non-governmental agencies, before making the life-changing decision that she could make a larger, positive impact in the US if she moved into healthcare sales and management. After beginning her career, Cheryl gained the knowledge and experience needed to work with employee benefits and  HR by helping employers make good decisions about their benefits and compliance.  During  this time, Cheryl received recognition 5 times for being a top sales person and relationship builder.

After leaving corporate America to become President and Managing Partner of CRP Benefit Services Inc, Cheryl worked very closely with Aflac, one of the leading providers of voluntary benefits in the country. She based the firm on offering Major Medical and Voluntary benefit packages to employer groups ranging in size from 3 employees to 5000 and very quickly grew that business to 60 employees and earned over 100 awards for excellence in sales and service performance and delivery.

While working directly with hundreds of business owners and thousands of their employees—as well as learning from her experiences as a business owner herself—Cheryl soon recognized that her clients’ needs extended far beyond simply selecting and administering health coverage options. Cheryl grew determined to find them the solutions they needed. The overwhelmingly positive response from clients after offering just a few “add-on” HR services soon led to the development of a comprehensive catalog of essential HR tools and services, all of which can be tailored to each client’s specific needs.

Currently, Cheryl is the founder and President of BIG-HR, the largest African-American woman-owned HR Consulting and Outsourcing firm in Northeast Ohio. She is also President and CEO of Cheryl C. Perez Enterprises, a provider of customized business consulting resources and coaching services. In addition to leading these ventures, Cheryl enjoys stepping outside of the office as a highly sought speaker and educator and is proud to feature a broad portfolio of business development and leadership presentations and workshops.

Cheryl has received several awards and top honors throughout her career, recently including being named Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year for 2019 as well as a 2019 Honoree for Women for Economic Leadership and Development (WELD), the Progressive Woman Award from Smart Business Magazine, the Achievement in Excellence Award from National Sales & Marketing Executives (NSME), the Phenomenal Business Woman Distinction from the Presidents’ Council, as well as Distinguished Alumni status from her alma mater.

She also has a very active, well sought after public speaking and training catalog, which has included keynote speaking engagements at Ohio University’s graduation ceremony and at the Women & Finance Brunch, as well as featured presentations at the Employee Healthcare & Benefits Congress, The President’s Council’s Emerging Entrepreneurs program, and countless other motivational and educational events.  Cheryl will actually say she's been speaking since grade school since she was a several time national qualifier and regional champion in public speaking, oratory and debate.

Cheryl’s true love is spending time with her husband of nearly 20 years, their 6 children and her 2 fur babies- not to mention reading a great personal development book, shopping, gardening and watching her favorite channel HGTV.
